Once Matt graduates from law school (top of his class, of course) and returns to Hell’s Kitchen, the story picks up. She’s a Manic Pixie Murder Girl! I’m certain that she’ll be in the show and if you want to get a more detailed peak at the character, this is the trade to pick up. She brings light and rare moments of happiness (and sex) to Matt’s life despite her drive to kill. She’s wild, clever and can match Matt in a fight. Matt takes Spanish to meet “that hot Greek girl.”In the comic, that girl is Elektra. But I like to see the happier moments and what the hero is fighting for.Īn important character in the comic gets a brief mention in the show’s first season. The style has merit, the tone is consistent throughout the comic and the tension stays high. Frank Miller’s style doesn’t lend itself to moments that illustrate love or friendship and instead focuses on rough patches and struggle. There’s not a lot of warmth between Matt and his father or Matt and his best friend, Foggy Nelson. The comic provides a compelling origin story, but it lacks the heart of the television show. Even though I know the comic came first, I felt like I read an inferior version of a story I already knew. The adaptation stays faithful and even improves upon the source material. The tv show follows the origin story penned by Miller.
